Samsung on Thursday unveiled the Gear S, its latest smartwatch model
that also doubles as a smartphone.Samsung’s
in-house mobile operating system to get things done. Thus, this
Tizen-powered SIM-enabled wrist watch has just become the first Tizen
smartphone in the world.

or Android, and instead relies on
Just as previously rumored, the Gear S comes with 3G support for making calls and sending messages without the need of a smartphone present, and features a curved display. The watch can still be connected to a smartphone and used just like its peers that ship without a built-in SIM slot.
When it comes to hardware, the Gear S offers a 2-inch Super AMOLED
screen with 480 x 360 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of
RAM, 4GB of storage, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, heart rate sensor, IP67
dust and water resistance certification, 300mAh battery and Tizen under
the hood.
In its press release, Samsung says that users will have access to
regular smartwatch features, including notifications and fitness apps,
highlighting The Financial Times’ HERE service, Facebook and Nike+
Running.
In addition to the Gear S standalone smartwatch, Samsung also took
the wraps off the Gear Circle, a new set of headphones that can be
connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
Both devices will start shipping in global markets starting with October.
